Red devils14 viewsThese are traditional masquerade characters from Trinidad's carnival. I really like the traditional characters and particularly the devils because they get so much into their characters and really work the crowd.Eileen

Giant Atlass Moth - Attacus atlas13 viewsThe Atlas Moth has the largest wing surface area of all moths (but not the longest wings)
t is so named because its wing patterns resemble maps. The Atlas Moth's wings have triangular transparent "windows" whose purpose we don't know. The wing tips are hooked and some say resemble a snake's head complete with eye, to scare off predators.
Non indigenous to the uk .

Tadpole12 viewsAs Carol noted I was fascinated by the hundreds of tadpoles in the Italian Garden pool. They're very small and fast-moving and trying to track then through murky water with a macro lens was a challenge. Although not perfect I like this one because you can just make out the beginnings of his froggy face. Eileen

Happy Couple36 viewsI don't like putting wedding pictures in the gallery but I was quite pleased with this one and so I am glad to say were they.
I had planned this shot with them before the wedding and on the day with family and guests on either side supplied with confetti to throw I positioned myself in the centre of the path and took the shots. It was quite windy and I would of prefered more confetti in the air.Dave

The Quiet Man17 viewsIn contrast to some, this speaker was quietly spoken and measured. So people crowded close to hear him and listened respectfully.Eileen

Bandstand11 viewsHaving completed phase one of spoiling an Edwardian park by chopping down the avenue of horsechestnuts [a few were diseased] and replacing them with bog standard tees and lamps and creating a cycle path, rather than repairing the bandstand, the council spent hundreds on boarding it up. The little darlings who needed protection from falling through the floor they had damaged managed to pull off the first two attempts - this one took two men three days to complete. There is now talk of demolishing it.greypoint

Are you ready?71 viewsThe cowboy (from Canada) got very angry very easily. The crowd teased him a bit. He was preaching Christianity, and as well as his nice hat and dress shirt had trousers with a Godly message embroidered down the side seams and snakeskin cowboy boots. I think he quite liked being the centre of attention.Eileen

Another Weed47 viewsHad another play with the weed shot and arrived at this...
Any thoughts on which is preferred of the two are more than welcome.picsfor

Defying the Odds12 viewsThis weed just will not stop. It does not seem in the least bit bothered by the snow, when all other plant life has gone into hibernation.
The original shot was rather bland, so i played around with the sliders in Lightroom until i happened upon this effect.picsfor

Brighton Royal Pavilion16 viewsI've lived here 6 years and never got a picture of this place by night!
Mind you, for most of that time it's been covered in scaffolding as part of its restoration process.
Well i had to get one picture of it didn't i?picsfor

Almost cost me a Nikon!17 viewsThis is almost the shot i tried to take just after the D3 had come out. After an hour with tripod and having tried 30D and 40D - both of which got a strop on trying to focus in such conditions, i was to be approached by some guy with his newish D3. Looking at what i was trying to achieve and having exchanged a few words - he duly upped and fired a few shots, showed them to me and walked off...
And no, his name wasn't Jonathan :-)picsfor
